Wandering What Is
May 2 @ 8:00 am - June 15 @ 5:00 pmFREE
“Wandering What Is started with a desire to discover how artists relate to creative existence beyond themselves. The show explores the breaking down of art production to expose what is both within and outside of personal and cultural experience. By presenting works whose makers developed specific structures in order to capture or mark what already is, our attention is brought to their methods and processes as they skirt the edge of life and intervening.
By happenstance I ran into mario lemafa at an event at the FRYE Museum. We started talking about existing as collaboration, being as enough. He spoke about an intentional period of time where he didn’t allow himself to produce artwork. What might one notice if they weren’t focused on producing? How might one’s attention shift or perception alter? This framework has led to a series of questions addressed Wandering What Is.
These artists are working with minimal intervention but taking specific steps to frame experience beyond themselves. They are speaking to a process that is already unfolding without getting overly involved. Each of their personal practice’s has conversations with what is outside of itself. Through processing and observing life, taking a time out, removal and seeking, the works presented are wandering around in what is.” (Promo Copy)
