Cooking with Kay

C89.5 is not just a radio station; we’re an educational program for teens at Nathan Hale High School in Lake City. Even though school’s closed, we’re working to provide learning opportunities at home for our students.

Our morning star, Kay, had been coming to school an hour early all year to learn the craft of radio, co-hosting Mornings with Drew Bailey. To support her continued education despite school closure, Drew set-up a studio in Kay’s home using our remote-broadcast gear. And thus was born Cooking with Kay!

With a laptop and our mic, headphones, and codec, Kay is back on the air, doing two things she loves: making radio… and cooking.

Last week, we purchased professional USB mics so Harmony Soleil, our Advanced Radio teacher (and host of Drive @ 5:00), can teach our students how to produce radio-quality audio with their mobile phones. And it works! Check out Preston’s first homework assignment.
